Too much of the woman’s self-confidence is associated with her breasts, whether you like it or not. Due to this connection, several women all over the world are trying to improve the size of their bust so that they would become more appealing. Today there is a surfeit of both conventional and non-conventional methods which aim to bring about it.
Breast Augmentation Surgery
Out of all the conventional methods available today, breast enlargement surgery is the most common. It is biologically called as breast augmentation surgery or augmentation mammoplasty. This is a simple surgical process in which a layer of foreign material is inserted into the breast, just above the pectoral muscle. Augmentation is one of the quickest and surest ways of increasing bust size, though it is not the safest.
The padding material earlier used was silicone gel. However, many governments have now banned silicone gel as an implant material, as it has been proven to cause cancer in some individuals. Today saline-filled transplants are widely used and they are considered much safer.
These transplants also contain a silicone shell, but they are filled with a sterile saline solution.
The insertion of the implant is done by creating an insertion in the breast. The most common place is under the breast just where the crease is located. This is the most inconspicuous position. Another place to make incision is under the areola. A third place can be under the armpit. Once the incision is made, the surgeon inserts the implant into a pocket created within the breast. Saline-filled transplants require smaller pockets as they are more liquid than pure silicone transplants.
Breast implant surgery today is a very common surgical procedure. It is performed under anesthesia and the patient is ready to resume work within a week. The surgery does not hinder other physiological functions of the woman, especially those centered on pregnancy such as lactation. There is also no medical evidence to show that augmentation mammoplasty can cause breast cancer.
Natural Methods of Breast Enlargement
1. Herbal Breast Enlargement Methods
Several natural breast enlargement herbs are available in the form of pills, creams, lotions and sprays to be either taken orally or to be applied over the breasts. These herbs are those which tradition has proved to be influential in causing breast enlargement. Some of these herbs are blessed thistle, fenugreek, saw palmetto, ginseng, fennel seeds, hops, dandelion, watercress and Dong Quai. Most of these have not been medically proved, and some of them may show negative side effects.
However, Ayurveda has some tried and tested methods of breast enlargement which have been in use for over centuries. The important Ayurvedic herbs that can bring about breast enlargement are mentioned below:-
(i) Pueraria mirifica – Pueraria mirifica is a common plant found in Thailand, Malaysia and Myanmar. It is also known as Krao Krua or Butea Superba. Its tuber is a known breast enlarging agent, as it contains miroestrol, deoxymiroestrol and coumestans. These agents make Pueraria mirifica stronger than the usual soy products used for breast enlargement. Pueraria mirifica is usually sold in the form of creams, oils and sprays to be applied directly over the breast.
(ii) Withania somnifera – Withania somnifera, also known as the Indian ginseng or Ashwagandha, is a very popular herb in Ayurvedic medicine. Though every part of this plant is useful in some way or the other, its oil mixed with almond oil and rose water has special effects on toning the texture of the breasts.
The following herbs are used in Ayurveda for breast enlargement in conjunction with one or more of the other herbs, but never singly:-
Piper longum, or Long Pepper
Gmelina arborea, locally known as Gamhar
Asparagus racemosus, a creeper of the Asparagus family
Pterocarpus santalinus, or the red sandalwood tree
Sesamum indicum, or sesame, locally known as til.
2. Breast Massage
Massaging the breasts yields slow but safe results. Before massaging the breasts, a suitable breast enlargement Ayurvedic cream must be applied to make the breast suppler and more elastic. The massage consists of various movements to stretch out the tissues within the breast so that they appear to be bigger and firmer. Massage also helps to flush out the toxins that may collect in the lobules of the breast.
Breasts must be massaged at least twice a day to yield good results. The pressure applied must not be too much, or it would lead to more harm than improvement. There are professional breast masseurs who can do the job.
3. Breast Enlargement Exercises
Some special exercises for chest expansion can bring about a sizeable increase in the bust line over a period of time. Actually, exercise cannot improve the tissues of the breast itself, as they are simply layers of fat. But exercise can improve the underlying pectoral muscles, which can show a better bust.
Even Yoga has several chest expansion asanas such as Surya Namaskara, Stabdhasana, Sahaj Stabdhasana, Vrikshasana, etc. which can help in improving the breast.
There are several methods of breast enlargement. But a wise woman would first try out the natural methods before opting for a surgery. In fact, augmentation mammoplasty must be kept as the last option.
